In past years, the MECC has held an “Annual Grub Crawl”. This year the events committee has decided to change this to an “Annual PUB Crawl”. This event is scheduled to take place on Thursday, April 22nd.

MECC will host their “Annual Charity Golf Outing” on Monday, May 17th at Gowanie Golf Club located in Harrison Township. Proceeds benfit the MECC Scholarship Fund. 11:00am Shot Gun Start

The Metro East Chamber of Commerce along with The Chamber Alliance of Macomb County, held an “Economic Forecast Luncheon” on Wednesday, January 20th. Guest speaker Dr. Jim Jacobs, Macomb Community College President; spoke to those who attended and forecasted what lies ahead with our economy!

The Michigan Retailers Association (MRA) has launced its scholarship competition for the 2010-2011 school year. While the exact number of scholarships has not yet been set, they expect to award at least (30) $1,000.00 scholarships. The awards are not based on financial need.

To be eligible the student or his/her parent must be employed at a business that is a member of MRA. To find out if a particular business is an MRA member, students or parents should check with their employer or call MRA’s Laura Schilling at the number below.

Students may call MRA at 800-366-3699 for an application, or they may apply online through MRA’s website at www.retailers.com. Questions about applications can be directed to MRA, or to International Scholarship and Tuition Services, which coordinates the competition for MRA, at 615-320-3149.

Applications must be requested by March 15 and sumitted by April 1.

AUDIO SENTRY CORPORATION, a Chamber member since 1997, celebrated their fiftieth year in business in 2009. They are a full service alarm company with a U.L. listed Central Station monitoring facility on premises.

 The family owned business, founded in 1959 by Carl and Dorothy Romano, has been located in Fraser since 1963. The Romano’s five sons, one of their three daughters, a son-in-law and five of their twenty-one grandchildren, as part of the nearly 40 employees, are helping to bring the company into its third generation of family involvement in the business.
